Since my earliest years, I’ve always had a purse in hand…or shoulder. My understanding of how this all started is that my Grandma gifted me chapstick, naturally, I needed a place to keep it. Boom! The chapstick and purse addiction begins! Like most women, I love my handbags, but I also like to think of it as a connection to my late grandmothers who were some of the most fashionable ladies I knew. And what a fun tradition to carry on!
My husband likes to call my purse the Mary Poppins bag, because you can find just about anything in there. I like to think of it as being well prepared! I have a love for these beautiful bags, but there is also a great mystery that surrounds them. I often hear my husband tell my boys “never dig in a ladies purse, that is private and you never know what you may find.” Well, I’m dumping the bag (and neatly organizing) to share what this bag lady never leaves home without.
Chapsticks and Lipsticks: Many have said I have an addiction, I think of it as a wonderful, long term romance (My girlfriends in college got me a piggybank that read ‘chapstick fund’). I carry at least three options with me at all times. I panic if I don’t have at least a stick with me, I’ve re-routed to make a special stop at a drugstore because I somehow left the house without a chapstick!
Aveda Stress Fix: This goes everywhere with me! This stress relieving concentrate is a combination of French lavender, lavandin and clary sage. Whenever things are getting a bit crazy, which they often can with three kiddos running around, I swipe some on my wrists and take a deep breath and go to my happy place. (Even if I just have a minute before mom duty resumes)
Band Aids: Because you never know when you may need a boo boo or blister fixer. We are currently rockin Muppet Band Aids!
Wipes: These handy towels have a multitude of uses. They can clean up everything from a dirty restaurant table to an applesauce covered iPhone screen.
Altoids : Because I have yet to meet anyone who enjoys coffee breath.
Snack: Most moms on the go keep a snack in their bag for those moments when their kiddos have an impromptu hunger meltdown. I, however, keep a snack so I don’t have a mommy hunger meltdown. I often do not realize I’m in need of fuel until I’m sitting in the car and far from the pantry. I keep a high protein snack with me at all times to prevent me from turning into a grouchy mama bear.
Vitamins : My car has magical powers! The moment I sit in the driver seat and turn the key , all things I have forgotten throughout the day magically come back to me. For this reason, most of my small daily tasks are found in my handbag, otherwise, they soon are forgotten again and do not get done. My daily vitamins are typically taken while sitting at a red light.
iPhone: This maybe an obvious one, but it’s amazing what all this little device can do. Not only does it keep me connected to family and friends (and Jimmy John’s), but it keeps me on schedule, prevents me from getting lost, and gives me the ability to capture all of those adorable moments that can happen anywhere! But its the video chat capability that Trumps all other features. It truly puts a smile on my face watching my kiddos talk and share their days with their cousins who are hundreds of miles across the country.
Honorable Mention: My Bkr water bottle. These adorable bottles are typically outside of my bag, but very much worth mentioning! I never leave without one. Not only are they adorable, but very much functionable. They have a small drink opening which makes it easy for the kids to use, and being that they are made of glass, I don’t have to worry about what is seeping into our drinking water.
